Art Quilts & Other Fabric Fun

Several years ago I began blogging about my fabric addiction and UFO (unfinished object) piles as Venus de Hilo, and you will find all the details of current and past projects on my quilting website and blog.

My approach to quilting is increasingly intuitive and abstract.

I call myself a “contemporary” quilter because I don’t naturally gravitate toward traditional, retro, or repro anything.

I make both art quilts and not-art quilts, mostly featuring intense prints, bright colors, bold designs, and in-your-face color and pattern combinations.

Increasingly, I enjoy making smaller pieces and experimenting with new techniques.

Some of what I make is modern with a twist (including bright prints or batiks, metallic thread, and other elements that are not typical of “modern” quilts):

I also sew a lot of what I wear. Calling it “fashion” sewing would be a stretch, but I like to think I sometimes achieve a goofy charm.

Keep up with what’s happening in the sewing studio over at VenusdeHilo.com. Quilts available for purchase are listed in the Venus de Hilo Etsy shop here.

{update: there’s not much listed in the shop right now, but I’ve got a big pile-up of stuff to be listed. Hang in there, good things are coming soon…}
